SGA Saturday - New Prompt for August 2025

Now that we're all back to our regularly scheduled programs, it's time to prompt once again. Thanks to a friend, I have a new favorite song blaring in my head, and that's how we got "survive" as a prompt. And whoa, but that one's a doozy. You could create a lot of angst with this one! From the sad suicide-mission that John Sheppard is apt to take, to surviving yet another Wraith attack on the city, to being chased on an alien planet by dinosaurs. Aah, survival.

And then we have "wait" - which, oh, can bring a whole ball of angst itself. Like Rodney trying to busy himself during Sheppard's suicide mission. But it can also be Carson waiting at the alter, losing his breath when he sees Laura appear in a wedding dress. Or it can be Atlantis, under siege, waiting to hear if their last message got through back to Earth.

There's lots you can do with "wait" and/or "survive" - and you've got the next few weeks to make the most of it. Go!

We celebrate love in all its forms in Stargate in the month of February! There's something for everyone!

February 14-28 is the posting dates for whatever works you have -- fic, art, poetry, pod fic, temple dancing -- to share with everyone. No sign ups, no commitment -- only sharing the love.

The rules are pretty lax and if you think your work fits, go for it. We love to celebrate Stargate. No length requirements, all formats, no sign-up... as low pressure as it gets.

Romancing McShep

romancingmcshep celebrates romance with two important caveats; (1) John and Rodney; and (2) happy endings. Whether in Pegasus, on Earth, an AU, or whatever amuses you, you can share the love of John and Rodney.

We've had a bit of a shuffle and popkin16, after many years of wonderful modding, finds she won't be able to mod SGA Secret Santa 2024... Many thanks to Popkin for her work over the years!!!

Schedule

★ Sign-ups: Now thru Nov 10
Assignments will be sent out by the 12th. You must reply to the email to confirm receipt. Yes, this is a quick turn-around, but we want to make sure folk have time to create their works.

★ Required Check-In: Dec 1
Check-in will be done via email. If I don't hear from you, your assignment will be turned over to a pinch hitter.

★ Posting Period: Dec. 10 to Dec. 23
You are responsible for posting your gift to AO3 (links on the sga_secretsanta community will be encouraged but not required). Posting instructions will be provided when the time nears.

★ Author Reveals: December 25th

Rules

This is a secret-santa style exchange open to all pairings and genres (gen/het/slash/femslash/multi). Both FIC and ART are welcome as gifts!

1. FIC: All stories must be at least 1,000 words in length. Everyone who signs up to receive a story is expected to write one in return.

1A. ART: Art should be comparable to the work on a 1K fic. Drawings should be on unlined backgrounds. (Okay, I'm not an artist, do what you think is fair.)

2. Additionally, all stories must be a complete, stand-alone work and must be beta read.

3. Remember: keep your identity a secret from your recipient until you post your gift! If you need to ask a question of your recipient, contact me and I'll be your go-between.

4. Be responsive to all mod communications. This includes replying to the assignment email and responding at check-in. Please provide an email you check regularly, and make sure stargatefests@gmail.com is white-listed.

4. Stick to the deadlines. This is my only Christmas wish! However, if you find yourself needing to drop out or needing an extension, email me right away.

5. If you drop out after the Check-in OR if you simply disappear, you will not be allowed to participate next year. If you think you might be ineligible this year, you can contact me to double-check before signing up.

6. Please provide a gen option in your request. This will make matching with people requesting rare pairs or fic about minor characters much easier to match.

Since we're celebrating the Stargate Anniverary fest for both SGA (20 years) and Stargate: The Movie (30 year), thought we'd throw another opportunity to join in the fun.

What is a 'microfic' -- as used on Tumblr, a microfic is 50 words. Half a drabble. Now, we're not going to be the microfic police. If you want to write more or less than 50 words for any of these prompts, you're more than welcome to do so. But a goal of 50-ish words is a challenge. Or, heck, do art... icons, drawbles... whatever you think fits is good enough for us.

The list below are 35 prompts originally from the McSheplets list on Live Journal. Use them in any order, or go back to the original McSheplets list (on a Google Doc here) and find some prompts you do want to write.

MCSHEP NOT REQUIRED, we're just stealing the prompts. Write any pairing, no pairing. Write SG-1, SGU... any forms of Stargate fic are welcome!

ANNOUNCING: Stargate Anniversary Fest

melagan and I (goddess47) are pleased to announce the beginning of the Stargate Anniversary Fest.

You may or may not know that the first episode of Stargate Atlantis (Rising) was first shown on July 16, 2004. Twenty years ago.

AND! October 28, 1994 will be the 30th anniversary of Stargate the original movie.

We're going to celebrate it all! From now until October 31, 2024, we're hoping you join us in celebrating Stargate in all its forms.

The biggest event of the summer is the Anniversary Bingo, but there will be more opportunities for everyone as time goes on. But Bingo takes more time (for the completionist), so we're starting now with the bingo.

story_works has opened a pan-fandom challenge for "Change of Season" that is a great challenge for the Stargate community. And since I don't know of any current Stargate fests (and if there is one, you haven't told me about it!), we'll join this one.

Tell us about leaving Atlantis on a sunny day and ending up on a planet where there is perpetual rain. Or our intrepid explorers are stuck somewhere long enough to experience the change of seasons -- how did they get there and do they escape?

Challenge is open until May 31 -- plenty of time to create something to share. Hope you can join in!
